Job Title: Career Counselor
Location: Newton, NJ
Job Description:
Assist clients in re-entering the workforce through career counseling, training coordination, and resource referrals in compliance with County, State, and Federal regulations.
Responsibilities include:
- Conduct weekly training orientations (Webex/in-person) and assess client eligibility.
- Develop individualized employment plans and guide clients on job search and career options.
- Coordinate training, supportive services, and employer connections.
- Monitor client progress, approve timesheets, and provide follow-up assistance.
- Maintain accurate electronic and paper records; enter data into NJDOL/ETS systems.
- Prepare reports and represent the agency at job fairs, layoff response sessions, and outreach events.
- Collaborate with staff, agencies, and training providers to support client success.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology, or education.
- 1–2 years’ experience in social/human services; government/non-profit experience a plus.
- Valid driver’s license; vehicle may be required.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office; familiar with video conferencing and e-signature tools; quick to learn new technology.
- Strong interpersonal, coaching, counseling, and presentation skills with diverse populations.
- Flexible, organized self-starter with problem-solving ability.
- Knowledge of employment, education, training, labor, and unemployment laws a plus.
- Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
Hours: Monday-Friday business hours. 35 hours per week. Temp-to-perm (6 month temp term)
Pay: $20-$24
